El pasado 28 de septiembre asistimos al inicio de la primera temporada de Designers Fashion Experiences en la emblemática Casa Gracia de Barcelona, en la que tendrán lugar ponencias de 6 diseñadores que compartirán conocimientos, experiencias y consejos.

The last 28th of September we attended the start of the first season of Designers Fashion Experiences in the emblematic “Casa Gracia” from Barcelona, in which will take place conferences of 6 designers that will share their knowledge, experiences and tips.
La primera ponencia a la que pudimos asistir fue a mano de Dolores Cortés, diseñadora de moda de baño, la cual compartió con todos los asistentes su experiencia, consejos… una ponencia muy educativa y de lo más interesante.
The first talk we attended was by Dolores Cortés, swimwear designer, who shared her experience with all the attendants, tips… a very educative and interesting talk.
Inició la ponencia hablando de los inicios de la empresa, del espíritu emprendedor de su madre, el adelantarse al tiempo y cómo adaptar el bañador al cuerpo. Todo esto incluyendo las dificultades de esa época, como por ejemplo adaptar la máquina de coser tradicional para coser un bañador, la llegada del turismo y la incorporación del bikini, una prenda que en su momento fue escandalosa.
The lecture started talking about her start in the company, the entrepreneurial spirit of her mother, being advanced to the current time and how to adapt a swimsuit to the body. All this including the difficulties of that period, such as adapting the traditional sewing machine to sew a swimsuit, the arrival of the tourism and the incorporation of the bikini, a scandalous garment at that time.
En 1991 Dolores Cortés asumió la gerencia y empezó una nueva etapa que vino marcada por tres retos importantes: la modernización de los procesos de fabricación, la apertura a los mercados internacionales y la asimilación del concepto Moda dejando claro que “no hacemos bañadores, hacemos moda”. De modo que empezaron a potenciar la creatividad, los procesos de diseño, producción, tejidos… todo este sistema de vendedores y tiendas incluyendo el patronaje de forma digital.
In 1991 Dolores Cortés assumed the direction and started a new era that was marked by three important challenges: the modernisation of the manufacturing processes, the aperture of international markets and the understanding of the concept Fashion making it clear that “we don’t make swimsuits, we make fashion”. So , they started to enhance the creativity, design processes, production, fabrics… all the system of sellers and stores including the digital patronage.
En el 2000 realizó su primera colección importante a nivel nacional, la cual presentó en la pasarela Gaudí, entre otras.
In 2000, she made her first important collection in a national level, that they presented in the Gaudi fashion show, among others.
La clave del éxito y de su inspiración es que es muy observadora y analiza lo que le puede gustar a ella y al público. Cuando diseña crea dos tipos de colección, la de pasarela donde desborda la imaginación y la colección habitual, para la cual se desarrollan unas 5-6 tendencias no tan espectaculares como en pasarela, pero muy importantes para poder equilibrar.
The key of her success and her inspiration is that she is very observant and analyses what she and the public can enjoy. When she designs she creates two types of collections, the one for the fashion show where the imagination runs wild, and the usual collection, for which she develops 5-6 tendencies that aren’t as spectacular as the runway ones, but very important in order to make a balance.
En 2012 tuvieron una gran oportunidad y sorpresa para todo el equipo de Dolores Cortés y es que tuvieron el honor de diseñar los bañadores del equipo Español de natación sincronizada para los juegos olímpicos de Londres. Una colección donde representaban el fondo marino, utilizando un material que pareciera un espejo, recreando las escamas de los peces.
In 2012 they had a great opportunity and surprise for all the Dolores Cortes team and this was that they had the honour to design the swimsuits for the Spanish synchronized swimming team for the London olympic games. A collection where they represented the bottom of the ocean, using a material that looked like a mirror, recreating the skin of a fish.
En general dió muchos consejos sobre la moda a lo largo de la ponencia y la moda como negocio. Quizás muchos entienden que la moda es glamour y lo es, pero también es un negocio, en la cual se tienen que pagar facturas, tejidos, colecciones… y los diseñadores deben pensar en ello.
In general, she gave a lot of tips about fashion along the lecture and the fashion as a business. Maybe a lot think that fashion is glamour, and it is, but it is also a business, in which you have to pay bills, fabrics, collections… and the designers must bear that in mind.
